'Working as a Registered Nurse within a care home setting, I became increasingly aware that we had several residents with excessive wax in their ears which was causing hearing loss and, in some cases, discomfort.  

One in five adults in the UK suffer from hearing loss (1) and hearing loss is linked to a poorer quality of life, social isolation and increased risk of falls and is the single most modifiable risk factor for the prevention of dementia (2).

We were instilling ear drops into these residents ears with little effect and were unable to get the GP surgery to come and remove the wax as they previously would have due to the service no longer being commissioned by many CCGs (3).

Where the resident was registered with a GP that still offered the service, there was often several months wait for someone to come out to perform the procedure as the community nursing teams already have an extremely heavy workload.

Enquiries into getting a private provider in to the home to provide the service resulted in quotes of £150-£200 per resident.

I decided that there was a need for a fully mobile, affordable ear wax removal service within the community and Lincoln Ear Health was born!

I chose Tympa Health for my training as they offered innovative diagnostic and treatment systems within one device. 

This device allows me to perform; high-definition digital otoscopy (to capture HD image and video), microsuction wax removal (the industry gold standard), and carry out a hearing screening (if required), all in a single appointment.
